"World War Z" by Max Brooks - An Oral History of the Zombie War
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8908.World_War_Z
Definitely one of our favorite if not THE FAVORITE of the zombie books we've read. The shear amount of research and thought work that had to go into this novel is astounding. Told in interview form with a unique perspective and voice for every "interview" character, this novel reads like a treatise on exactly what might happen during a world wide zombie outbreak. Are there some hopeful and optimistic parts, yes. Do we love it all the more for it? Absolutely yes. Does it lack cheap drama and classic zombie tension tropes? Yes. Spoiler alert: we love it for that too.
